Poem IV (Sonnet I)
Dylan Stroh

I tinker with the Bayern-grass

And make up with the marveled trees

I’ve never met the underpass

Where you, awaiting me and freeze,

Kiss Me, whom I cannot employ

The money is not knowing me

The bridge rebuilt; was once destroyed

I think, in 1943

Like us, dear Love, there is no plaque

Nor gilded facts for none to read

And anyways, there are no facts

Just matters where we’ve not agreed

So where we aren’t is where we’ll be

We’re in this Love, absurdly free

A Delicate Death
Isabel Stitchick

Once autumn unfurls we will feast

and tie cinnamon sticks to the doorway

With intention.

I’ll kiss your cheek with mulled wine lips

And ponder the mirror of your campfire corneas.

The crows ravage crystalized corn,

The starlings gossip with mischievous abandon.

Where will they sleep when the forest lulls

In hushed cold suspension?

We will hold hands and skip

To the pumpkin patch

Find the biggest one barely

Suckling still on the stem

And take to it with shovels.

We will carve a home-shaped hole

And sleep together like newborn bunnies–

All warm flesh and vellus hair,

Rhythmic breaths and wet noses.

The moon will rise and we will dream

Of the place where the columbines grew

And the trillium bulbs rest

Beneath the gentle crook of the rusted windmill.
